Cuando empezamos un proceso de coaching profesional, salvo excepciones, empezamos con la fase de autoconocmiento, y en concreto, con la pregunta ¿Qué quieres profesionalmente?
En la mayoría de ocasiones, los clientes contestan (y quizás tú estés pensando) “Pasa palabra. Quiero hacer mi cv y encontrar trabajo YA”. Sin embargo, como vimos en el artículo anterior, es esencial que, primero, clarifiques que te gusta profesionalmente para que junto con un trabajo conjunto posterior (que veremos en próximos artículos) puedas determinar un objetivo profesional concreto, realista (hemos de mirar opciones reales dentro del mercado laboral, no vale cualquier objetivo profesional por mucho que te guste), exhaustivo (incluya tus conocimientos, habilidades y experiencias) y motivador (punto muy importante y, muchas veces, decisivo para elegir al candidato final en un proceso de selección).
La respuesta a esta pregunta pasa por determinar tus valores e intereses profesionales. Vamos a ver en qué consiste cada concepto y cómo tu mismo puedes empezar a trabajar para clarificarlos, pese a la dificultad que tiene determinar estos elementos intangibles que tanto nos definen.
Los valores son tus metaobjetivos, esto es, lo que en realidad quieres cuando quieres algo. Tu motivación más profunda, aquello que sí o sí quieres vivir (por ejemplo, te gusta el trabajo de comercial, porque sí o sí necesitas estar en contacto directo con las personas, o te gusta estar en atención al público, porque sí o sí te gusta ayudar). Del mismo modo que nuestros rasgos físicos nos confieren una apariencia única, la articulación, priorización y claridad de nuestros valores determinan nuestra identidad individual. Cuando vives de acuerdo con tus valores estás satisfecho, en caso contrario, te sientes frustrado, angustiado, decepcionado… Conocer tus valores te va a ayudar a tomar decisiones alineadas con quien eres realmente, viviendo una vida de dentro hacia fuera (esto es, desde lo que nosotros queremos y necesitamos).
Un ejercicio para clarificar valores que podéis empezar a utilizar es el que facilita el Institut Gestalt: Ecología de la Vida.
Por otra parte, los intereses profesionales son actividades y objetivos concretos a través de los cuales se manifiestan los valores. Para descubrir cuáles son tus intereses profesionales, tienes que detectar qué actividades profesionales te resultan más placenteras, en cuáles te concentras con facilidad y te sirven de inspiración.
Un ejercicio útil para darte cuenta de tus intereses es el siguiente: Cuando estés desempeñando una tarea, pregúntate: ¿Qué es lo que me gusta de esta tarea? ¿Con qué disfruto más? ¿Dónde encuentro satisfacción? Y, en general, contesta a esta pregunta ¿Con qué combinación te gusta más trabajar: personas, datos, cosas y/o ideas? Por ejemplo, a un arquitecto suele gustarle trabajar con cosas e ideas, a un profesional del marketing digital con datos e ideas, y a mí con personas e ideas ¿Dónde te sitúas tú, independientemente de tu profesión anterior o actual?
